27. Aug 2013

Dear diary;
Today I learned the workings of a course.

You hold a course to teach people something which they do not already know. In the cases which they do already know what you are teaching them, you are wasting time, and once you have established this, you should move on to more difficult things in the same subject, preferably things the attendants do not know.

Before starting the course, you need to decide what your subject is. Then you must learn your subject properly. This is to ensure the best possible experience for everyone involved. No one wants to listen to someone who clearly doesn't know what they are talking about.
After learning your subject, it is advised that you collect data from the attendees about what they already know. This is to avoid wasting time.

To keep the attention of your attendees, be Steve Jobs. Know what you are talking about, and present what you are talking about like a man with passion. You do not need to have passion, only to give the impression of having it.
A good lunch in the middle break helps a lot on the concentration and motivation, for both you and the attendees.

Now, you have finished your course. Was it a success? You find that out, by asking the ones who paid. Did the attendees learn what they were supposed to? If they did, wonderful! You have completed your course.
But what if they didn't?
Good luck getting another job.
